Anushka was born on 7 November 1981 in Banglore, Karnataka. She is called as Sweety by her family and close friends. She completed her graduation in BCA from Mount Caramel College of Banglore University. She wanted to do PG in Computer Science but has not fulfilled. She is the brand ambassador of MBS Jewellers and The Chennai Silks. Apart from films and ads, she is also a Yoga Instructor and has trained under yoga guru Bharat Thakur. She has been known as "Lady Super Star of telugu & Tamil cinema".

Her first elder brother Sai Ramesh Shetty, who is a cosmetic surgeon and is married to Saloni Rai. Her second brother Gunaranjan Shetty is a well settled businessman. She hails from a family of professionals but she has concentrated on the fitness and acting career.

Anushka has started her acting career with Puri Jagannath's film "Super" alongside Akkineni Nagarjuna. She got her big break with the 2006 movie "Vikramarkudu", which acquired her huge fame. In 2008 she had appeared in six films and then starred in the fantasy film "Arundhati", which is a female centric movie. This movie has gained her "Nandi Special Jury Award" and "Filmfare Best Actress Award".
